Lily is gone.

When we went over to Bend, we took Lily over to our friends house; they were going to keep her there at least for the weekend, and possibly keep her there for a couple of weeks, since they have little kids who would have enjoyed her, and it would give her a break from living on our balcony. Apparently they have a high school-aged neighbor who is a little trigger-happy budding felon, because his first impulse was to go over to our friends house and shoot our dog without even consulting our friends, whose property the dog was on, cowering under one of their cars. (They were in town at the time) --The story he seems to be sticking to is that he thought she was a stray...even though she has a little diamond-studded collar on at all times. So she is gone, and we have to figure out a way to break the news to our kids. if anyone has any good ideas about how to do this, I'm all ears. Lily was a great dog, and we loved her so much. we will miss her terribly. (also, we will be pursuing this within the legal system...even this farmgirl knows that some dogs in some circumstances need to be shot. This was not one of those circumstances.) That little bastard will be glad to know that I don't believe in vigilante justice as much as he does.
